The origins of Ceelo
Sep16
Ceelo is a strange word. Original word. Street word. Synonymous with Hip Hop culture.
The origins date from the early days of modern American History. During those times a lot of Chinese and African immigrants and slaves were working together in various locations. The Chinese had an ancient game of three dice gambling called Sing Luk or Chain of Flowers. Now you can imagine the likelihood of African slaves wanting to bet against Chinese slaves on the chain lines or in the mines, maybe even on the cotton fields. A portable form of entertainment to get the heart racing and pass the time in boring moments. A simple and efficient way to make or loose some quick bucks. An easily hidden gambling method in case to keep the man at bay.
This is where the word Ceelo originates. African slaves applying Eubonics naturally to the original Chinese word of Sing Luk. The name gets passed around for a few hundred years and the “ing” becomes “ee” and the “uk” becomes “o” to make it a new word for the English language.
The game has changed slightly from the original too so Ceelo is really in a class of it’s own. An original street culture game a part of the 4 corners of Hip Hop culture and a pre requisite for the modern gangsta, playa and cool urban ghetto youth.
Now it’s on the iPhone too!
